A defensive shotgun should have a white light on it because the majority of violent encounters around the home happen in no light or low light conditions. This course is designed to introduce white lights to the modern defensive shotgun. In this course you will learn about lighted forends, mounted flashlights, attachment methods and rapid employment techniques. Shotgun operators will shoot a comprehensive course in daylight and both low light and no light scenarios. The academic portion will include: Modern weapon lights (construction, activation methods, lumens etc.) Candela vs. Lumen vs. Lux Beam nomenclature and considerations Colored lenses Mounting considerations Physiological considerations The daylight range portion will include: Patterning the shotgun Malfunction clearing Shooting from various positions Pistol transitions Barricade shooting The no light/low light portion will include: Using light as a weapon Low light reloads Low light shooting at variable distances Low light malfunction clearing Low light barricade shooting Low light positional shooting Low light target to target transitions Low light pistol transitions REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Shotgun with sling and attached white light or lighted forend Shotgun side saddle Ammunition dump bag or other means to carry extra shotgun ammunition Pistol with attached white light and correct holster or tactical hand held flashlight Two pistol magazines and magazine pouch Upon arrival students must be able to safely load, shoot, and clear malfunctions from various positions with their shotgun and handgun. If an appropriate level of skill is not demonstrated during daylight the student will not be allowed to proceed to the low light portion.
